I’m Mark – a Musician (Guitar is my main instrument) and Educator based in Knocklyon.
I first started playing guitar in September of 2004. Over the years I’ve experimented with many different styles – Acoustic, Electric Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Classical, Flamenco – and I’ve played in lots of different settings: Live rock bands, musical theatre performances, guitar ensembles, duets, and solo classical guitar recitals.
In 2014 I graduated from Maynooth University with a First in my Bachelors of Music. I specialised in Performance on the Classical Guitar, and Contemporary Composition.
Since then I’ve gained experience teaching classes and designing courses in other fields, accumulating over 500 hours of teaching time. I’m now returning to music teaching with a fresh perspective and a new approach.
In everything I learn and teach, I always look to understand and explain things in the simplest ways possible, that everyone can understand and use. Whether it’s a physical skill or more technical theory information, I find analogies to help students better grasp the ideas and actions at hand. I also look to other disciplines in art and science to influence my own art, performance techniques, and teaching methods in order to be improving regularly.
In any class I give, I only encourage my students positively – punishment or shame have no place in my teaching.
I am also Garda vetted through Create Ireland.
